<br />
i have a very exciting announcement to share with you all. a couple weeks ago, i discovered the website, <a href="http://www.darbysmart.com/">darby smart</a>. darby smart is a craft website with individual materials but also kits for projects created by DS designers. in the kit, you get everything you need to complete the project - some of the projects are very simple, and some require more advanced techniques. complete with competitive prices, free shipping, and a pretty user-interface, i was sold!<br />
<br />
after perusing DS for awhile, i decided to apply to be a designer. and yesterday i was accepted! this means that i will be creating some crafting kits to sell on darby smart - you may see some familiar projects on there, lifted from my nailed it series on this blog. i'm also planning on spending the next couple days coming up with some new projects, so expect to see those too (hopefully)!<br />
<br />
i'll keep the updates coming as things happen, but in the meanwhile, let me know if there are any projects you've seen here that you would like to see made into a DS kit!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17123952709487452216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686574674857583678.post-33074085099608102802014-10-01T10:14:00.004-07:002014-10-01T10:14:32.067-07:00west coastersi should be working, but it occurred to me that i made something and then didn't tell you all about it which means i need to fix that <i>tout suite</i>.<br />
<br />
this is a ten-minute craft, max. not counting drying time, but no one counts drying time because you can instagram a craft while it's still wet, and that's when it's real, right?<br />
<br />
this is what i made:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4eQNgBWWVM2MH5ZdBC4MVmzdLjn8lueMvPsw6pwLVdDzM0-JVOyf5IRw8eZCMn3ZSlnzP-fnCpHJ5yB1Uo9Hbnwwp6KWy4mR4yXjAOyR88fQjatSYGHOxBqJLIHSzLVY4mLNMQ35c8XU/s1600/10556424_10100316901618544_1011024444497513153_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4eQNgBWWVM2MH5ZdBC4MVmzdLjn8lueMvPsw6pwLVdDzM0-JVOyf5IRw8eZCMn3ZSlnzP-fnCpHJ5yB1Uo9Hbnwwp6KWy4mR4yXjAOyR88fQjatSYGHOxBqJLIHSzLVY4mLNMQ35c8XU/s1600/10556424_10100316901618544_1011024444497513153_n.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this craft has four amazing steps:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1) find and purchase birch coasters. i mean, if you're super ambitious and you've recently cut some dead branches off a birch tree outside your house (currently happening at my home), you could cut some cookies off of that and sand them down. your call.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) purchase washi tape. i opted for two kids: straight and chevron. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3) attach washi tape semi-haphazardly across the birch. i wanted each one to be a little different, so my washi taping was a little intentional.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4) mod podge over the top. this seems to protect it from things like condensation from bottles, so i wouldn't skip this step if i were you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
one thing i did that i would not recommend is i put little felt disks on the bottom (three on each). this would have been key if i were using these coasters on glass, but i'm using them on a slated wood coffee table which means the felt has the opposite effect i wanted, and makes the coasters wobble a little. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
give it a try! wood cookie coasters are popular and there are so many ways to make them your own. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
bisoux!</div>
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17123952709487452216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686574674857583678.post-90523682570973267732014-09-24T16:50:00.006-07:002014-10-01T09:45:51.456-07:00it's 4:45 in the afternoon, also known as when i'm a waste of spaceso let's take this opportunity to talk about something really awesome that i made.<br />
<br />
keen insight: ikea both sucks so much and is so great at the exact same time. i recently moved to los angeles (more on that another time) and i tried really hard to avoid ikea. because i'm a grown-up now, with a salary, and i should buy my things from west elm and pottery barn.<br />
<br />
but then i started browsing ikea hack sites on pinterest. i won't bother posting any here because there are so many and i don't want to take attention away from the one i'm going to show you that i made.<br />
<br />
first i bought this dresser (except in white...somehow i can't find a picture of a white one online). in case you're wondering, it's the three-drawer hemnes:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcQKu6xBPAArOPPBgVtrZSYF1UwgHIpdIKguQLVEwE8QJaqlStrAd2B6VsQlJDpbjeYznoMDjRzE&usqp=CAE" /></div>
<br />
before i even got it home, i went to target. fun fact, target now sells wallpaper. and paint! i don't care how long they've been doing this, i just figured it out so it only just became important. there are so many great wallpapers. i'm not sure how i settled on this one...i think it's because i already have a lot of chevrons in my room decor and didn't want to overdo it. this one has the same angles but mixes it up a bit, plus the color is lovely:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Devine Color Diamond Wallpaper - Horizon" src="http://scene7.targetimg1.com/is/image/Target/15025199?wid=410&hei=410" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
i also bought a set of new knobs, because i'm no longer on a graduate student stipend so i can do things like that.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
with the help of some wine, bollywood music, and my new roommate, the dresser became assembled. BUT: before i put the knobs in, i covered the face of each drawer with this wallpaper (pro tip: it's removable and repositionable. that was really important). it's like adhering any other vinyl...you have to be careful of air bubbles and all those things. but overall it's remarkably simple.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
then, i used a little awl to poke holes in the wallpaper where the knobs should be (not hard, since the dresser already had space for knobs so it was just a matter of finding them through the paper). instead of using the ikea knobs, i used my own, and VOILA:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgEZorJ42ww_mHEPK_B6lAczPVor69m1kcec2e7_BHdU_a_YKDD71BhAXiNog9n_HMrsQ-_qO2jWWgENOGmE0cg6lDevoHLArLFCQOdERfZF4T6WSXyAXxLG1ok1dB2fPY1aoaA20Nl4o/s1600/Untitled+picture.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgEZorJ42ww_mHEPK_B6lAczPVor69m1kcec2e7_BHdU_a_YKDD71BhAXiNog9n_HMrsQ-_qO2jWWgENOGmE0cg6lDevoHLArLFCQOdERfZF4T6WSXyAXxLG1ok1dB2fPY1aoaA20Nl4o/s1600/Untitled+picture.png" height="320" width="318" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i'm so proud. i thought about putting the wallpaper on the top too, but took the coco chanel approach and decided that would be overboard. i have a lot of the wallpaper left over, so i'm excited to see what else i can use it for...i'm thinking so far about using it to line the shelves in my bathroom...and then see where it goes from there!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
my favorite fonts seem to fall into a couple categories. i understand that serifs are easier to read in blocks of texts, but overall i prefer sans serifs, either very light or very bold. i like well-placed, creative, and non-gratuitous flourishes. here are some examples of beautiful fonts:<br />
<br />
this is avenir. i like using this one for simple posters. also my resume uses this font.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpwy1d56R3kMDU7ZDjMM20TWukz2eroRX64G6MVpSkkPB8Aqiy8LG08vkjXTnKG3u1PzWb7L57WQiwigw5pZGQn0X6XkUHmCFFlA5S5sVI6RdyjK07Y9C30HhnPOGG-cQBDNFCmvUj7eQ/s1600/avenir.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpwy1d56R3kMDU7ZDjMM20TWukz2eroRX64G6MVpSkkPB8Aqiy8LG08vkjXTnKG3u1PzWb7L57WQiwigw5pZGQn0X6XkUHmCFFlA5S5sVI6RdyjK07Y9C30HhnPOGG-cQBDNFCmvUj7eQ/s1600/avenir.gif" height="30" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this is brandon. i don't love the weathering on this one, but i do like how bold and simple it is. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRRB_-Ybg0g-6pkU7iInT9bBfYunqcpgbz7CYatLbBlEdHVWEMUrVTl_JQ5zo3GbrDKCMFFXE1dbUHocXLOQAaPO3KS8fUoIGnxYJZ0hsOaKF6v8t9g-MHlzKoSH2SuPldeHMNmHtEPJU/s1600/brandon+printed.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRRB_-Ybg0g-6pkU7iInT9bBfYunqcpgbz7CYatLbBlEdHVWEMUrVTl_JQ5zo3GbrDKCMFFXE1dbUHocXLOQAaPO3KS8fUoIGnxYJZ0hsOaKF6v8t9g-MHlzKoSH2SuPldeHMNmHtEPJU/s1600/brandon+printed.gif" height="23" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this is carolyna pro. i love the interplay between line widths, and also it's just really pretty to look at:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Ahe5E2oXyl2-Ufi_3RbUdj4IRPMdzeWiQlOAw6bTIcc4uMExLGPsKuC_x1TyD_W58ZVqZKymP-5YOJ4ZKjLEYfJyqpdQCIaAV6SinY9rcmsg-ou3UuAzkFK8NnB4Tjgoeuii8iWdWdg/s1600/carolyna+pro.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Ahe5E2oXyl2-Ufi_3RbUdj4IRPMdzeWiQlOAw6bTIcc4uMExLGPsKuC_x1TyD_W58ZVqZKymP-5YOJ4ZKjLEYfJyqpdQCIaAV6SinY9rcmsg-ou3UuAzkFK8NnB4Tjgoeuii8iWdWdg/s1600/carolyna+pro.gif" height="55" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
lastly, this is true north. a really sweet and clean cursive that's not too overwrought:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaM1-IUmM21g8hJLuBVGRIKH7rjcVjM-8BtEkTQnkiFuiBMG7M8PBjbO3oidGC0CmNywELrW6RxYgO05QhPDtRCZhfGy4YNlQheFXzUsek3blYPb3nwXgV2O05AnTReGPWi9VC9xUldIc/s1600/true+north.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaM1-IUmM21g8hJLuBVGRIKH7rjcVjM-8BtEkTQnkiFuiBMG7M8PBjbO3oidGC0CmNywELrW6RxYgO05QhPDtRCZhfGy4YNlQheFXzUsek3blYPb3nwXgV2O05AnTReGPWi9VC9xUldIc/s1600/true+north.gif" height="51" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
being really into fonts is fun but can get really expensive. i love getting my font newsletters and reading blogs, but balk at the prices of downloading the actual products of my desire. if you want to and can invest in nice fonts, myfonts.com is a good resource. but if that's not in your budget, there are websites out there that allow you to download some great fonts for free. a lot of them are not necessarily in my taste (i won't say they're bad, necessarily, just something i wouldn't be caught dead using). but there are some gems in there.<br />
<br />
i'm going to skip 1001freefonts.com because it may have some good things but the user interface is just unworkable.<br />
<br />
i do like these sites though...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.fontsquirrel.com/">Font Squirrel</a> because if i'm turning to a website for help with aesthetics, the website itself better be pretty - which font squirrel is.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.dafont.com/">da font</a> is not as pretty as font squirrel, but they do have a lot of fonts that i like.<br />
<br />
lastly, <a href="http://www.creativebloq.com/graphic-design-tips/best-free-fonts-for-designers-1233380">this blog</a> has compiled a list of 100 great fonts for the design-inclined.<br />
<br />
i'm sure there are a lot of other good font sites out there, so if you have a favorite, please let me know! in the meantime, go forth and type beautifully...<br />
<br />

so i accidentally went and finished my phd and in the midst of that i forgot to post anything here at all.<br />
<br />
but luckily, i'm back (now as DR. KATHAYOON) and i have lots of crafts and style observations to share. in lieu of doing a massive brain spill where i convey everything i've thought and made in the past eight months, i'll take things slow and start with a craft i did recently! ready? let's begin.<br />
<br />
yesterday i embarked on the task of concrete heart necklaces. i got the directions from <a href="http://fallfordiy.com/blog/2014/01/27/diy-concrete-love-hearts-necklace/">here</a> but true to form, i only sort of followed them and did a lot of things my own way. let's begin.<br />
<br />
first, i gathered my materials. these included:<br />
- a plastic knife<br />
- really old petroleum jelly<br />
- leftover concrete from our house remodel<br />
- water<br />
- three paper cups<br />
- a fondant mold in the shape of the pendant (a heart)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDDn07JU22XQjP-XyiLlEnic1Laoa1dHX9W7nDwkQyxBC1e0jAmqrdm7tnnBQGxq_W_3_RPVgO5sz0Sucm0K7wnQxKUAdGFWyX5_HUaKxf-X4QM36it2Z3pisB-qwzPp_HuuygyYs7k2I/s1600/2014-08-17+15.48.34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDDn07JU22XQjP-XyiLlEnic1Laoa1dHX9W7nDwkQyxBC1e0jAmqrdm7tnnBQGxq_W_3_RPVgO5sz0Sucm0K7wnQxKUAdGFWyX5_HUaKxf-X4QM36it2Z3pisB-qwzPp_HuuygyYs7k2I/s1600/2014-08-17+15.48.34.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the fondant mold i got was clutch because it has a spring mechanism so you can push the concrete out without messing it up. so first, i lined the mold with some petroleum jelly:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh34w24nQSomyEYs38z6kuM2bFfxIUo867H1t9EmRfXGB7-2rEapJJ0PlLNFFT1nHVyo9oCEQhcM2CY9NdnK29HkB5SL-wBGldured-BufFxjz0r-s9RUTqCn4_KQ6_7Gqo_MqP0dJ1N3c/s1600/2014-08-17+15.50.07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh34w24nQSomyEYs38z6kuM2bFfxIUo867H1t9EmRfXGB7-2rEapJJ0PlLNFFT1nHVyo9oCEQhcM2CY9NdnK29HkB5SL-wBGldured-BufFxjz0r-s9RUTqCn4_KQ6_7Gqo_MqP0dJ1N3c/s1600/2014-08-17+15.50.07.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
next, my dad helped me mix some concrete. just a little bit because it hardens pretty quickly. and not too watery - the perfect consistency was like that of cold butter. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibD1b3cXphz1Ls0ThgZeTYjhGh86bCClUAykvNRqGkIOEa-5ms_qQhteWyY46gLT_X_ao-ybwphgDSl7vCCgeQWPissh584f87q9xZUgosDSFxeJU6XRQTaFvMDebH8goYIphaXHNP1s8/s1600/2014-08-17+15.50.12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibD1b3cXphz1Ls0ThgZeTYjhGh86bCClUAykvNRqGkIOEa-5ms_qQhteWyY46gLT_X_ao-ybwphgDSl7vCCgeQWPissh584f87q9xZUgosDSFxeJU6XRQTaFvMDebH8goYIphaXHNP1s8/s1600/2014-08-17+15.50.12.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
then, i used the knife to fill the mold with the concrete and level it off. we really packed it in there to make sure there were no air bubbles or holes. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqpWWNXZcu44XHj5PqPqBgIk27CeZR0CX8L3ZIQWZieyM4MxluglJSy8IfaGJdchJVvfOaYmXximlUinNM_Bj5eqOL08EWgAenKq9mIHA5VtG-b8KsTudWmcfhyphenhyphenkrz6X6tA11GgnRUj7k/s1600/2014-08-17+15.52.43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqpWWNXZcu44XHj5PqPqBgIk27CeZR0CX8L3ZIQWZieyM4MxluglJSy8IfaGJdchJVvfOaYmXximlUinNM_Bj5eqOL08EWgAenKq9mIHA5VtG-b8KsTudWmcfhyphenhyphenkrz6X6tA11GgnRUj7k/s1600/2014-08-17+15.52.43.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
removing the concrete too quickly ended up messing up the pendant, so i let each one set for as much time as it takes to play one game of candy crush.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
then, i removed the pendant from the mold by pressing the little trigger at the bottom of the mold and set it on a bag (smeared with more jelly) to set in the sun. i made about 10 of these. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
on some of the pendants, i used a small stick/piece of wire once the stick broke to make a little hole for hanging. i didn't do it to all of them because i wasn't sure i was going to like it when it was dry. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
after the pendants dried (i left them overnight because the drain from our air conditioner maliciously sprayed them all with water, preventing them from drying in the normal amount of time), i sprayed them all with a touch of gold spray paint. i thought about being more adventurous with my painting, but i kind of like the look of the raw concrete, with just a little bit of sparkle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
now here's the part where things get tricky.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
at first, i followed the directions from the site and flattened out some bails to stick to the back. i used jump rings and hot glue to fix everything up and ended up with a necklace that looks like this:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi42oAGGIVWEEdIXtWH1y9G6KEqalpU4mTkBtEwupLqiDJNsTrFT5btDgRqGUWkUOajGTkMIGuriQsuuMROwJKtFowDO3M-6mX8CDUdC4zhJP_zg6RnwEEQiTD7GvWUB1i7fQ-7tAyHZrk/s1600/2014-08-18+11.31.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi42oAGGIVWEEdIXtWH1y9G6KEqalpU4mTkBtEwupLqiDJNsTrFT5btDgRqGUWkUOajGTkMIGuriQsuuMROwJKtFowDO3M-6mX8CDUdC4zhJP_zg6RnwEEQiTD7GvWUB1i7fQ-7tAyHZrk/s1600/2014-08-18+11.31.01.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
pretty okay, you might say. except gluing the fixture to the back of the pendant caused it to lean forward annoyingly. so i took that off. and then i used hot clue to stick just the jump ring to the top of the heart:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz8_tiEECa9UUAR7hSr5ShEujfVQkuIgTBepjFeWbX9VfALhzdifp1XDPuDWACZ69pD4CMTQgrvV_etih9pB6o-E7u2apNRIA1qXz3-Kx56Acho0Ri_XxTr7Uq8JpYrB1CoBTavr6tWzI/s1600/2014-08-18+12.05.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz8_tiEECa9UUAR7hSr5ShEujfVQkuIgTBepjFeWbX9VfALhzdifp1XDPuDWACZ69pD4CMTQgrvV_etih9pB6o-E7u2apNRIA1qXz3-Kx56Acho0Ri_XxTr7Uq8JpYrB1CoBTavr6tWzI/s1600/2014-08-18+12.05.10.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this looks much better! i made a whole bunch of them:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjnj23YF_d7Vl2Z78Mg9EomUO1ra0bWoRXrN7NNVXI8pwmNj-4bwCS3_akU41fkRr1vmzj2cXWJutRs5x5cSb_ZnygbCBBO2ORVTiGWBDMlLYBpx9q9mnfi8Xe_QsL0TRuqo9ndmk9JW0/s1600/2014-08-18+12.05.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjnj23YF_d7Vl2Z78Mg9EomUO1ra0bWoRXrN7NNVXI8pwmNj-4bwCS3_akU41fkRr1vmzj2cXWJutRs5x5cSb_ZnygbCBBO2ORVTiGWBDMlLYBpx9q9mnfi8Xe_QsL0TRuqo9ndmk9JW0/s1600/2014-08-18+12.05.20.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
then i took my prototype to my bff and it broke in about 10 seconds. hot glue was not the right choice. so this is where we're at right now - i used gorilla glue to set one of them in the same way. i've taped the jump ring to the pendant to allow the glue to set. we have about one more hour of that before i can say if it's the right choice or not. if gorilla glue doesn't work, i'm going to hop out and get some epoxy or superglue. STANDBY.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
but otherwise, so fun! modifications for the future include sticking a headpin into the heart while it's still wet to avoid this whole glue fiasco. and also adding shiny things like glitter or crystals while it's wet to add a little pizzazz!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
aren't you glad we're back?! next time i'll either post something about making my own birch coasters, or spray paint. or something else that's a surprise!! unknowable. </div>

now that that's out of the way, let's talk about socks!<br />
some people are really into socks. you know - they <i>really</i> enjoy warm fuzzy socks, like getting socks for christmas, etc. i'm not one of those people. i would actually prefer not to wear socks. but in the wake of the arctic blast that has hit pretty much everywhere in the country, i've had to change my tune.<br />
<br />
not too long ago, coincidentally, i came across <a href="http://www.sockittome.com/cart/index.php">sock it to me</a>, a portland-based (shocker) sock company that has the most delightful socks i've ever seen. it's better to show than tell, though, so let's look at my favorites.<br />
<br />
first of all, elephant socks:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPN7p9wFWxaOc06xrEU2T-fYACrB-xHvBllP7OQHnqxSbo08DblMgTt0FEx8sSWHK5PJvYM1NNOQaaEvJA6k1zl4ZJKRBNNekFxpu70qnLhI8CHxIMsBa3oG60nAiUt_nzv3dqyGftx7E/s1600/F49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPN7p9wFWxaOc06xrEU2T-fYACrB-xHvBllP7OQHnqxSbo08DblMgTt0FEx8sSWHK5PJvYM1NNOQaaEvJA6k1zl4ZJKRBNNekFxpu70qnLhI8CHxIMsBa3oG60nAiUt_nzv3dqyGftx7E/s320/F49.jpg" height="320" width="168" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
second of all, dinosaur socks. i really think i need these.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBxEuDzn6IgJ-yDx27r9Ad-m6egkEQkh0smZcDJ8yWXE54JRjTMdlF8kw3ia2MJLpr_V0VyxYHcoGFQyiGVN9kB2r1iMgT9IjZXG6Z6KLkQHbi_uSsG3TK2JI4bvXsrwIkVc2TmxRi9VI/s1600/F77.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBxEuDzn6IgJ-yDx27r9Ad-m6egkEQkh0smZcDJ8yWXE54JRjTMdlF8kw3ia2MJLpr_V0VyxYHcoGFQyiGVN9kB2r1iMgT9IjZXG6Z6KLkQHbi_uSsG3TK2JI4bvXsrwIkVc2TmxRi9VI/s320/F77.jpg" height="320" width="160" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
third, french socks.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrh0AHHusjcIvKNvgGktvZfqgcGRz0RrFtGgVA0wQlmbbD8mbkjYVzxJ-0UPo3Kprjkso1Ekab8-kGxpySKTFCgl-YZpY3Phv5-5gZxnJgpkugm1P3kPgMEcIg3htKRpHXNZi6GupCVcY/s1600/F78.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrh0AHHusjcIvKNvgGktvZfqgcGRz0RrFtGgVA0wQlmbbD8mbkjYVzxJ-0UPo3Kprjkso1Ekab8-kGxpySKTFCgl-YZpY3Phv5-5gZxnJgpkugm1P3kPgMEcIg3htKRpHXNZi6GupCVcY/s320/F78.jpg" height="320" width="160" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
fourth, oregon socks. i mean, really, there's a sock for everything i love.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkLGVcswyhsv8Qw_MAm4chU8cY3KEeS10mMQbotUhj0WM6QQu7FIT1d2Dk2m1MBTv-uAATy-YmEg0GRidAju4GxmipnoyW_Hz5ZvVGtLBS2P2evsVOv6Z_LefSmNlmw32R-vsruo0vQ-o/s1600/F96.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkLGVcswyhsv8Qw_MAm4chU8cY3KEeS10mMQbotUhj0WM6QQu7FIT1d2Dk2m1MBTv-uAATy-YmEg0GRidAju4GxmipnoyW_Hz5ZvVGtLBS2P2evsVOv6Z_LefSmNlmw32R-vsruo0vQ-o/s320/F96.jpg" height="320" width="161" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
while i like repeating pattern socks, my favorite ones are actually the ones that have one big pattern up the whole sock. like this:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz2BQIYUmcmJyzSMaZDHWn0tNtoHfYPSmAODDcm1eSwFmuzcmsoqx_sxzFMns0JjhqSA_zSXrW6beXalcFSMFCInZdkJFSzkRMHAaZEMSFDKWnblRbgsCoz4jan-A99w7AtNYKvMNwEF8/s1600/f0118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz2BQIYUmcmJyzSMaZDHWn0tNtoHfYPSmAODDcm1eSwFmuzcmsoqx_sxzFMns0JjhqSA_zSXrW6beXalcFSMFCInZdkJFSzkRMHAaZEMSFDKWnblRbgsCoz4jan-A99w7AtNYKvMNwEF8/s320/f0118.jpg" height="320" width="161" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
OR THIS.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvAZfxGPTkyxfNYtiX0j7zZqOuF5GjuZXVKq_E_AbLc6Q8vPXWaib-QhG8JYLhJBveieksp40APp_YAFxSJUf3NmFtrbzAR6fcmIUOwKqmQ1CJjK3fdANz1HzATmYuu5AmG8vX05842xA/s1600/f0147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvAZfxGPTkyxfNYtiX0j7zZqOuF5GjuZXVKq_E_AbLc6Q8vPXWaib-QhG8JYLhJBveieksp40APp_YAFxSJUf3NmFtrbzAR6fcmIUOwKqmQ1CJjK3fdANz1HzATmYuu5AmG8vX05842xA/s320/f0147.jpg" height="320" width="160" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
somebody call kristen bell.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
i definitely purchased these. the loch ness monster is real.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhafYiVU9wi-lFqqDEveloO336rGicyb3n6OF6PoHGDZhPRHxDgYYbBT_whXreokfZaG6dPcbL6XlR20Yf-rWaS5B1O9COJGRf1lH3AkEVRtZGaOIxgLiwCOynWFF0gA6qw2ZYhffiiuxw/s1600/F0185.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhafYiVU9wi-lFqqDEveloO336rGicyb3n6OF6PoHGDZhPRHxDgYYbBT_whXreokfZaG6dPcbL6XlR20Yf-rWaS5B1O9COJGRf1lH3AkEVRtZGaOIxgLiwCOynWFF0gA6qw2ZYhffiiuxw/s320/F0185.jpg" height="320" width="160" /></a></div>
<div style="font: 12.0px Helvetica; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
and last but not least, a unicorn poo-ing a magical rainbow.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBDaQ_vShzb8tIpB3KBEvc9JEYunvy99FtYcXtn8Cy49IeWdywFP14qu2aS1eHvQ3mOG-OT3MHuVK4qQkcHb5oTZyPrn1UFr8Ck7s9AKMaPJhls6LXxMrYfTWYnelN7TKq-cqiDa9oS0/s1600/F0187.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBDaQ_vShzb8tIpB3KBEvc9JEYunvy99FtYcXtn8Cy49IeWdywFP14qu2aS1eHvQ3mOG-OT3MHuVK4qQkcHb5oTZyPrn1UFr8Ck7s9AKMaPJhls6LXxMrYfTWYnelN7TKq-cqiDa9oS0/s320/F0187.jpg" height="320" width="160" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i've already purchased some of these as xmas presents for friends, so act surprised if you get one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
in conclusion, it was really hard not to make a lot of sock puns in this post, but i'll leave that to the experts. if you're wondering what to get me for christmas, look no further (unless you're looking to buy me a computer or nike fuelband, then definitely look further). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
have i become a newly converted sock obsessor? no. but if i can get socks with magical unicorns on them, then i think i can get excited about winter weather just a little bit more. </div>
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17123952709487452216noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686574674857583678.post-85950452223648247412013-11-09T21:17:00.000-08:002014-10-01T09:46:32.549-07:00like i never leftSo...sorry I left for kind of a long time. It turns out writing your dissertation, applying for jobs, teaching piano lessons, traveling for business, traveling for pleasure, training for a half marathon, working for your advisor, stress-eating, and grief-recovery-sleeping (seriously, it's a thing. 10 hours a night) doesn't leave a lot of time for blogging.<br />
<br />
But don't you fear, because I've been thinking about you a lot, my cherry amours. I have loads of great ideas for new posts to write. You want a sneak-peek? Of course you do.<br />
<br />
Things I some day plan to write about, probably pretty soon:<br />
1) How to make your own earring holder<br />
2) Guided painting classes: so fun!<br />
3) Holiday gift guide, particularly useful if you're buying a present for me<br />
4) Getting in touch with your country side (Luke Bryan not included)<br />
5) Cyanographs: the most hipster art project I can think of<br />
6) Birchbox: how do they make it so awesome?<br />
<br />
In the meanwhile, to tide you over, look at what I'm obsessed with right now:<br />
(okay it's nail polish, don't judge me)<br />
<br />
Sephora recently came out with a new line of nail polishes and they're kind of great. They have every color and effect you could possibly want, and they last a long time. I put one of the Xplosive top coats over a L'Oreal nail polish and it lasted a whole week, which is a huge deal for me. And they dry SO FAST.<br />
<br />
So far I've only gotten two:<br />
<br />
I got this neutral for job interviews, because what if I don't want to wear neon yellow to a job interview? I may not. And so I can wear this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglSeR53WVJQPrpVwisC1byklEqHfQsPEnQJ_vjwfhu928PUyQrn7cTcUuw8hTvoEq2MhQ-7EYiwcR2QIUf-0YUe-L8hkZPxrgjlN8E6BH5_m69m_inkYTwAcX4e7iG3A19C2b-91qRI8Q/s1600/intensity.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglSeR53WVJQPrpVwisC1byklEqHfQsPEnQJ_vjwfhu928PUyQrn7cTcUuw8hTvoEq2MhQ-7EYiwcR2QIUf-0YUe-L8hkZPxrgjlN8E6BH5_m69m_inkYTwAcX4e7iG3A19C2b-91qRI8Q/s200/intensity.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And I got this one to put over my other nail polishes. It looks like splatter paint!! I think it's so cool.</div>

Or pretty much any of them. At $10.50 each ($12.50 for the special ones), it's enough of a splurge to keep me from buying all of them at once, but cheap enough to use as treats (like, say, for not biting my nails...). Thanks, Sephora! For taking all my money.<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Greetings! If you don't know me, I'm Anna, and I have the great pleasure of guest-posting on MCA! I am super excited about these GALAXY SHOES I made last weekend and can't wait to share! All the sentences so far have exclamation points!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Anyway....I originally got this idea from a crafting site I frequent, but if you google “galaxy shoes” you'll get many, MANY results. My basic plan was to take some old, cheap, black, Keds-type shoes and spruce them up in a space theme. I began with:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<ul>
<li>shoes (obviously)</li>
<li>paint brushes/sponges</li>
<li>acrylic paint in pink, purple, black, white</li>
<li>newspaper (to protect the work area)</li>
<li>painters tape</li>
<li>black paper</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsEF9NMB-z4e8LEveGHzy2S_a21i8T3ZCefBtjyxQ_ZaqzewqKbYlUoCSRLDl5JftnWsFYsLOu9C0UCqXEQElnU4xxhhdsJHK57ANqpmafXL2ZyHydCFldqLZXPpn2DT1-xKlukTuaDrg/s1600/DSCN4504.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsEF9NMB-z4e8LEveGHzy2S_a21i8T3ZCefBtjyxQ_ZaqzewqKbYlUoCSRLDl5JftnWsFYsLOu9C0UCqXEQElnU4xxhhdsJHK57ANqpmafXL2ZyHydCFldqLZXPpn2DT1-xKlukTuaDrg/s200/DSCN4504.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-decoration: none;">I wanted to try out some color combinations/patterns before I worked on the shoes. I was going for a space c</span>louds/nebula type look.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAsoKlqP-sCrXsCWkmrgQtUj9wrAEnQfha6mfaJYW7DVRmRaBplQHyy9rPYpzuxCGigqagUzHZwizNSpgIRrkIRfY1TQXc9C_FdaLK9eoJfUUOoH4Cib_dFiRZ-R5gXDwNCYnu0JJirtA/s1600/DSCN4505.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAsoKlqP-sCrXsCWkmrgQtUj9wrAEnQfha6mfaJYW7DVRmRaBplQHyy9rPYpzuxCGigqagUzHZwizNSpgIRrkIRfY1TQXc9C_FdaLK9eoJfUUOoH4Cib_dFiRZ-R5gXDwNCYnu0JJirtA/s320/DSCN4505.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<span style="text-decoration: none;">Ok, so the painting here is not very spacy, but I did get some ideas of how I wanted to mix the colors. It was also at this point that I decided I wanted to add a little water to the paint to make it slightly thinner. This turned </span>out to be a good call :)<br />
<span style="text-decoration: none;">Next, I taped the soles of the shoes with painter's tape so I wouldn't get paint on the rubber edges. (also I took out the shoelaces!) Then, I started painting the cloudy parts using a combination of colors and white. The sponge b</span>rush was great for this.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1LJgFy_OcUkYaSL-i2Z607eVwKVWGPc2Z3DrZLJyVOjh1a_zz0h_6y3swb-e5QBnRV2qr9fkeeeR2E0-B2hJEYzV0LVyduNxRp6jndyMquNDIiMxiCuiGNdzp4Jd-4ydKxwB8QZs_uqQ/s1600/DSCN4511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1LJgFy_OcUkYaSL-i2Z607eVwKVWGPc2Z3DrZLJyVOjh1a_zz0h_6y3swb-e5QBnRV2qr9fkeeeR2E0-B2hJEYzV0LVyduNxRp6jndyMquNDIiMxiCuiGNdzp4Jd-4ydKxwB8QZs_uqQ/s320/DSCN4511.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-decoration: none;">After I was pretty satisfied with the cloudy parts, I took a pencil and dotted everywhere with white paint in varying sizes (mostly small). I tried with a small paint bru</span><span style="text-decoration: none;">sh at first, but the pencil worked better for me. Try both </span>ways and choose your own adventure. :)</div>

<span style="text-decoration: none;">Things I would consider doing differently next time:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Find some sparkly acrylic paint – I think this would be VERY cool</li>
<li><span style="text-decoration: none;">Plan out my pattern of where I wanted to paint the clou</span>ds- the two shoes look pretty similar and I would have liked them to be a little more asymmetrical</li>
<li>Some slip-ons (vans style) would be very cool for this project too!</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="text-decoration: none;">Thanks for reading and have a great crafternoon!</span></div>

oops. looks like it's been a month since i posted...that's troubling. </div>
well i know all of you have been lost and fashionless without me, but don't you fret. no more long hiatuses. hiati.<br />
<br />
perhaps the reason i haven't written is because i haven't seen a lot of things this summer that i've loved. most of the fashion trends i see revolve around constantly looking like you're in search of a music festival and/or burning man...and as i always say, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.<br />
<br />
but i can think of some summery things that i've really liked, and i'll share those with you.<br />
<br />
first of all, i am loving this billow-y fabric trend. who doesn't love a good chiffon on a hot day? we all know i love clothes that can do double duty, and chiffon tops go so easily from work-appropriate to happy hour and dinner casual. h&m has a lot of these tops in different styles, but so do loads of places.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0MLEqN8Ws_FKV3_aDxO6SlwRRtcacy5QOZpNoNztGcqOKXuhUCLj7WcStiiPy2Bppeinuvwzej-6h38F3u-3iJyrLJZCeTnjpRqjeskGfLWdbEmD6hxP49pCz-hsXOmGpj-uCM5A6Ru0/s1600/hmprod.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0MLEqN8Ws_FKV3_aDxO6SlwRRtcacy5QOZpNoNztGcqOKXuhUCLj7WcStiiPy2Bppeinuvwzej-6h38F3u-3iJyrLJZCeTnjpRqjeskGfLWdbEmD6hxP49pCz-hsXOmGpj-uCM5A6Ru0/s320/hmprod.jpeg" height="320" width="273" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">hm.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div>
the second thing i'm in love with right now are phone cases that double as wallets. or wallets that double as phone cases. something about carrying a big purse around on a hot day is a little unbearable, and i'm terrified of dropping my brand new iphone or leaving it somewhere (which reminds me, i could do a whole entry on iphone cases...). enter the iphone wristlet! there are lots of options out there, but my choice is the deborah dot wristlet from kate spade. and it's on sale at nordstrom!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

and last but not least, staying hydrated in the heat is a must. and even though i don't have one of these, i really want one. so in the event that you find yourself needing to buy me a present, look no further. this little buddy lets you mix fruits or veggies to diffuse into your water. science is amazing:</div>

<br />
step one: pick your jar. there was a wide selection. i chose the fishbowl style.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjllnfNHGL0Vn11kNm6Qb9zpbDPOfhwdh3shZ4hBx_w2mw7Cdkm9lgfCtN5OXPS6Rntf_rukVBrlwQFBKGeNV8mgrn0V8XRvKHtS68Awd-8myBMDkYQcx4nhON79wdLPYGl0Li8NxHqZG0/s1600/Birthday074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjllnfNHGL0Vn11kNm6Qb9zpbDPOfhwdh3shZ4hBx_w2mw7Cdkm9lgfCtN5OXPS6Rntf_rukVBrlwQFBKGeNV8mgrn0V8XRvKHtS68Awd-8myBMDkYQcx4nhON79wdLPYGl0Li8NxHqZG0/s320/Birthday074.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
there was also a rock selection. some people did a great job picking out their rocks. i made the mistake of overdoing it on the red rocks and had to go back and pick all the red rocks out when i decided i hated them. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
basically, it was success all around. here's my recipe for terraria:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>materials:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- white sand</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- potting soil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- plants that don't require a lot of water</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- toys</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- rocks</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- bowls</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- moss</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>be sure to:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- plan ahead. it's hard to make edits.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- know when to stop. it's easy to overdo it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- make it really awesome!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i want to make a dinosaur terrarium sometime. with a volcano in the middle. for now, though, my wonderful terrarium is in my new office. it looks great and i really hope i don't kill the plant.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the end!</div>

<br />
the goal was to take jars and wine bottles and breathe some new life into them with spray paint. we had two bottles: one was a wine bottle we planned to cover in gold spray paint and one was a mason jar we planned to cover with chalkboard paint. spoiler alert: one of these turned out and one did not.<br />
<br />
for the wine bottle, we first took a hot glue gun and wrote colleen's name in glue. i don't have pictures of this because i wasn't thinking about pictures just then. but suffice to say this was really hard. hot glue is really stringy, as it turns out. but we did it and took the bottles outside to be sprayed. we set them on some logs because that seemed like a good idea. and it was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO8BKAP52R70aLqFi-4i3CR0LQqAgX0MTPAZRMnB4pDWk5galehS2H1gH9UftyATwGrFlgYS-S-ZVPS9N0Awk33wKZrrX5C-7ctUR-hBYDN6VMsrr_Zj0VIdvTReaKyT5PxH_f1zlnhuI/s1600/2013-05-17+13.53.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO8BKAP52R70aLqFi-4i3CR0LQqAgX0MTPAZRMnB4pDWk5galehS2H1gH9UftyATwGrFlgYS-S-ZVPS9N0Awk33wKZrrX5C-7ctUR-hBYDN6VMsrr_Zj0VIdvTReaKyT5PxH_f1zlnhuI/s320/2013-05-17+13.53.10.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
colleen vigorously shook the spray paint for two whole minutes. or most of two whole minutes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBQ1lVKg25pNtF-2sZS7_1_FVJ87gox6DISAMypCwghIgSaCovhjFV6hsNu7vn9HS9rXjcHjQDxd5YEALGMM3andP2OPueoJZhAkWcn02sjrZEAu3f1kx937aRku81ysSaenZdNscTUG0/s1600/2013-05-17+13.53.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBQ1lVKg25pNtF-2sZS7_1_FVJ87gox6DISAMypCwghIgSaCovhjFV6hsNu7vn9HS9rXjcHjQDxd5YEALGMM3andP2OPueoJZhAkWcn02sjrZEAu3f1kx937aRku81ysSaenZdNscTUG0/s320/2013-05-17+13.53.59.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
and spray! our spraying technique improved over time. at first the glitter was just really runny because we were spraying in one place instead of waving the spray paint all over. clearly we were never taggers in our youths. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiBkePhGFxB7jhyphenhyphenLzvmVkepjVJIEYzxqLRgEE2YNIDf8Td8vjMIl_9QeMuASd6ZEzGN8wy9dGDmADr_tAye00KOSGZof9dpK1h9NKR4bGolgh6p6ozSEU2GgR52yUU5rCzFM0aVXW3-vc/s1600/2013-05-17+13.54.16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiBkePhGFxB7jhyphenhyphenLzvmVkepjVJIEYzxqLRgEE2YNIDf8Td8vjMIl_9QeMuASd6ZEzGN8wy9dGDmADr_tAye00KOSGZof9dpK1h9NKR4bGolgh6p6ozSEU2GgR52yUU5rCzFM0aVXW3-vc/s320/2013-05-17+13.54.16.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
the runny glitter was really pretty while it was dripping and glittering, but less pretty when it ended up streaked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi16EidSdYYd644R1N4Lijh1ezUnS6RYH8UsqVV4PqtvW-clgHTipsj3E5Jat3utvTNUtKz5GrNtXY7CsUjeab-PwqycETj7hAohgXZZcMD7UDHmdFCdUbnay7a_WFw2JYxad70QDlaguY/s1600/2013-05-17+13.54.35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi16EidSdYYd644R1N4Lijh1ezUnS6RYH8UsqVV4PqtvW-clgHTipsj3E5Jat3utvTNUtKz5GrNtXY7CsUjeab-PwqycETj7hAohgXZZcMD7UDHmdFCdUbnay7a_WFw2JYxad70QDlaguY/s320/2013-05-17+13.54.35.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>

anyway this is how this one turned out. we weren't thrilled about it.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
we added a few more coats, but still were not thrilled. </div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
next we turned our attention to the chalkboard mason jar. we kept it simple and just focused on doing a good spray paint job.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdNNC6BxR1qbzugGES7_CmkMAI3M0xihrqFaeqeGTsG4jzmtaf1k_Y2hC_CgvnPT_dOanNEVqf7qtrNtuHGkZu_6kIGPjiXzU7Bt2Q6u7iIgooeMiZJqkNPcon-rPbJoLzjyjOSn-KySM/s1600/2013-05-17+14.01.33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdNNC6BxR1qbzugGES7_CmkMAI3M0xihrqFaeqeGTsG4jzmtaf1k_Y2hC_CgvnPT_dOanNEVqf7qtrNtuHGkZu_6kIGPjiXzU7Bt2Q6u7iIgooeMiZJqkNPcon-rPbJoLzjyjOSn-KySM/s320/2013-05-17+14.01.33.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
this one turned out really well, i think. several lessons were learned from this project:<br />
1. hot glue guns are mostly terrible for crafting with any precision.<br />
2. chalkboard paint is as awesome as it sounds.<br />
3. simplicity usually wins out.<br />
4. spray painting is not as simple as one would expect. who knew?<br />

<br />
people don't send enough hand-written shit anymore.<br />
<br />
emails are dandy, but letters are sweeter. thank you cards trump all. pretty paper makes everything look sunnier. these are basic tenets of my existence.<br />
<br />
luckily, i'm not alone. there are a lot of people out there making really beautiful papers and things so you can feel hip and cool while writing a card, even if your handwriting does not look like calligraphy.<br />
<br />
my very favorite stationery company in the world might be <a href="http://riflepaperco.com/">rifle paper co.</a> my office is slowly being taken over by rpc notebooks and notepads. i am obsessed with this vibrant florals and simple prints. observe:<br />

<br />
with all of these weddings, i quickly realized a big fashion dilemma:<br />
1) i don't want to wear the same dress to multiple events<br />
2) i don't want to go bankrupt from buying dresses i'm only wearing once.<br />
<br />
finding the first dress was a challenge, but after i did, i realized what i was looking for: the perfect dress can be dressed down with a jean jacket and cognac boots, and dressed up with heels, a blazer, and a piece of statement jewelry. so i started looking for dresses i could wear to class and wear to wedding festivities.<br />
<br />
ann taylor loft has quickly become one of my favorite places to look for this double-duty dress. for example:<br />
this dress could definitely play both parts - the belt and shoes can make the difference between day and night.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7oMANH8N1ue-xhHKZUuu8oo9IEHZKdVJEJ6Ejf7Y-TzYyuM_VY6YvJWcmSSIyGC4hcRC6H1k6V783GA1TH5pSoMWnHiF3P7ktf51phZdZPBtqPoJiryQgElZPOO-TK-4zuy1zbKmykkI/s1600/atl1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7oMANH8N1ue-xhHKZUuu8oo9IEHZKdVJEJ6Ejf7Y-TzYyuM_VY6YvJWcmSSIyGC4hcRC6H1k6V783GA1TH5pSoMWnHiF3P7ktf51phZdZPBtqPoJiryQgElZPOO-TK-4zuy1zbKmykkI/s320/atl1.jpg" height="320" width="307" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
though this dress is a jersey knit, the gathering at the side makes it something a little more special.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_DGH2FaZ0VgQ7iHGdfJgF3pK_5D4iYQ9CRTcg88G5WEzuHjOFemUIOF02b_o3kZ3Rc2iTTT2Y8RrmX2kDy3UuXhP4a2F0s0IoIWfV-7D-2G4t7eCxmUWwwLqV0xNwO2RaTqnW0UwKmj4/s1600/atl2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_DGH2FaZ0VgQ7iHGdfJgF3pK_5D4iYQ9CRTcg88G5WEzuHjOFemUIOF02b_o3kZ3Rc2iTTT2Y8RrmX2kDy3UuXhP4a2F0s0IoIWfV-7D-2G4t7eCxmUWwwLqV0xNwO2RaTqnW0UwKmj4/s320/atl2.jpg" height="320" width="308" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
i love this dress. full stop. it may ride the line with being a little too fancy with the jacquard print, but i love neutrals and neons together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99J9y_60wlXMOXUlmKqrSo2Fo7RUeEch-XwHRc7BEbEhX7t_HSxYysp5OHSctrxuKf8638Y7nlcNRnfl4ezuRkq3UXXy2bDIi13M8BFUMo7F23u-vsxZEJN75P7ePlg7hbN5EyaOz94U/s1600/atl3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99J9y_60wlXMOXUlmKqrSo2Fo7RUeEch-XwHRc7BEbEhX7t_HSxYysp5OHSctrxuKf8638Y7nlcNRnfl4ezuRkq3UXXy2bDIi13M8BFUMo7F23u-vsxZEJN75P7ePlg7hbN5EyaOz94U/s320/atl3.jpg" height="320" width="307" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
this is the dress i ended up getting and wearing to the wedding this weekend. it looks like silk, but it's not, so wrinkling isn't as much of a problem. i paired it with a chunky yellow necklace from charming charlie and a pair of taupe patent wedges. for school, though, a jean jacket and sandals or cowboy boots are the perfect way to play up the fun, springyness and down-play the formality.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6iKxKUO4HK9oz-5zUSYkPsWAZacW9eHzdJRS-O_E5Nx5zoIORSTOjkWavpc47djU9wRTQDzpYlitt_18-BHnZhLqheiiGOLjZMtYP4Ha7wJB16gqRPzghndXnT7_L7XQWPKI5OHsv8WA/s1600/atl4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6iKxKUO4HK9oz-5zUSYkPsWAZacW9eHzdJRS-O_E5Nx5zoIORSTOjkWavpc47djU9wRTQDzpYlitt_18-BHnZhLqheiiGOLjZMtYP4Ha7wJB16gqRPzghndXnT7_L7XQWPKI5OHsv8WA/s320/atl4.jpg" height="320" width="307" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
there are tons of dresses like this - and even if you end up spending a little bit more, you can rest assured knowing that it's a multi-purpose garment! i have a feeling that i'll be attending more and more weddings, graduations, and other celebrations over the next few years so i'm planning to stock up on a few of these kinds of dresses and rotate them around. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
thoughts? what are your tricks for helping your dresses adapt to multiple situations?</div>
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17123952709487452216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686574674857583678.post-89851922297907885312013-04-05T16:53:00.000-07:002014-10-01T09:48:22.396-07:00dash vishtashanalet's talk about working out. for the past few years, running has pretty much been my only form of exercise. there are a lot of things i really like about running: past the initial start-up cost, it's free. you can do it anywhere, and most importantly, you can do it outside. plus somehow bragging about running is better than bragging about other sports (as evidenced in my contribution to <a href="http://www.runningandblogging.com/2012/10/guest-blogger-5-kathayoon-khalil.html">this blog</a>. there are a lot of things i don't like about running, namely that it sucks and it's boring. well, it gets boring when all you do is run the same course every other day for years.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
so i've been trying to branch out. my friend jillian has convinced me to come to the gym with her and we've started working on "operation 6 pack." in the name of O6P, we have done lots of novel things like lift weights, do plyometric workouts, and drink kale smoothies. i don't know if it's going exactly how i want it to, though, because i took two weeks off to go to south america and oregon and now all my packs are gone. no packs. </div>
<br />
i also really like yoga, which is no secret. yoga is hard to fit into your workout routine, though, because to get really good at it you have to go pretty regularly. my budget, however, allows me to go exactly one time a week. UNTIL NOW.<br />
<br />
because NOW i have a desk job at a yoga studio in palo alto where i work for 2.5 hours every week and get to do as much yoga as i want all week long FOR FREE. they also have trx and barre classes at this studio. i'm stoked. i plan to go to yoga at least 4-5 times a week for the whole quarter.<br />
<br />
not having to pay money for yoga means that i can rebudget for awesome workout clothes. so let's look at some of my favorites:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSI51HdMQbKxvpBG4Vt-JZHr6Io7DsNZAFwEqCVaGgTY3Hliq9Z" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">nike.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
i am obsessed with these shoes and i must have them. this is the nike studio wrap pack - it's three different components (one of the components, a ballet-shoe style flat, isn't pictured) that you can wear in five different ways. i've always been mildly disgusted by the fact that sometimes in hot yoga you step in pools of other peoples' sweat. and have to go into the bathroom with bare feet. and by mildly i mean extremely and by disgusted i mean horrified. these shoes are a dream come true because i can be a germaphobe AND be cute about it! unfortunately, they don't come out til may. but still. awesome.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
as far as sports bras, i find little joy in wearing something that hardly anyone sees. while i love the lululemon sports bras, they're too expensive for something i'm just going to throw a tank top over. instead, i swear by the champion sports bras at target:</div>
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="C9 by Champion® Womens Seamless Cami Bra - Assorted Colors " src="http://img3.targetimg3.com/wcsstore/TargetSAS//img/p/13/79/13793420_121204123000_265x265_pad.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">target.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
they are great. now on the next item, hear me out. i too was initially discouraged by the price tag on this yoga mat ($68). but i caved because everything else i found was too thin or not grippy enough and i was having a lot of trouble with sliding around. and headstands are really unpleasant on thin mats/wood floors. i decided if i was going to spend a lot of money on anything yoga related, it was going to be the mat (kind of like shoes for running) because it's something i use every time i go, and it actually makes a difference in my performance/enjoyment of the workout. on a related note, i would really like a cute mat bag. someone should make me one. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

i'll stop there for now. i really love workout clothes from <a href="http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/womens-zella?cm_ven=google&cm_cat=women_brand&cm_pla=Womens_Zella_General&cm_ite=zella_b&ef_id=UF6P6wAAEARgL131:20130405235003:s">zella</a> because i can buy them from nordstrom rack for way cheaper, and they're pretty much as cute as lululemon without the insane investment. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
et toi? what are you workout-must-haves?</div>

<br />
first things first, there's the all-important question of what the season's "mascot" animal will be. foxes and hedgehogs have had their turn in the spotlight. so while woodland creatures are phasing out, the animal that might be stepping it's spindly legs into the fashion picture is the....flamingo? <a href="http://www.shefinds.com/2013/the-flamingo-is-to-spring-what-the-fox-was-to-fall-on-sweaters-hats-more/">shefinds</a> has the complete low-down but here's one of my favorites:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Sugarhill Boutique Flamingo Sweater" src="http://s14.shefinds.com/sf/files/2013/02/image1xxl1.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://us.asos.com/countryid/2/Sugarhill-Boutique-Flamingo-Sweater/zm0se/?iid=2673023&cid=2623&Rf900=1508&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=200&sort=-1&clr=Navycream&mporgp=L1N1Z2FyaGlsbC1Cb3V0aXF1ZS9TdWdhcmhpbGwtQm91dGlxdWUtRmxhbWluZ28tSnVtcGVyL1Byb2Qv&MID=35719&affid=2135&WT.tsrc=Affiliate&siteID=QFGLnEolOWg-fh3RswefOGGvDNM6sELHIg">sugarhill boutique from asos</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
i know some people who will be stoked about this trend (me) and others who will be the opposite of stoked (won't name names).<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
the other thing i'm excited about is the resurgence of baubles. bright, fun, and the easiest way to spice up a white tee and jean combination. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
i'm partial to something in fuchsia...</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">kate spade</td></tr>

<br />
<a href="http://www.baublebar.com/">bauble bar</a> is one of my favorite new finds of the week - they have tons of cute jewelry at pretty nice prices and they give you styling suggestions for each piece! here are some of my favorites:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Pink Bezel Gem Strand" src="http://s3.baublebar.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/250x245/17f82f742ffe127f42dca9de82fb58b1/6/4/6478-d_01.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Coral Gem Mesh Bib" src="http://s3.baublebar.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/250x245/17f82f742ffe127f42dca9de82fb58b1/6/2/6252-b_01.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Supreme Cabochon Bib" src="http://s3.baublebar.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/250x245/17f82f742ffe127f42dca9de82fb58b1/i/m/img_7884.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Midas Mesh Bib" src="http://s3.baublebar.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/250x245/17f82f742ffe127f42dca9de82fb58b1/i/m/img_3686.jpg" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
if these seem a little intense to you, never you fear...they have all sorts of styles. PLUS your first order is $10 off, PLUS if you use this link: http://www.baublebar.com/rewardsref/index/refer/id/251724/ and buy something, i get $15. so that's cool.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
alright, that's your spring round-up for the day. more to come (i'm sure)...<img src="http://s7d5.scene7.com/s7viewers/dhtml/images/spacer.gif" /></div>

<br />
did anyone else know about this!?!? i'm so excited. there's so much yellow. it's perfect already.<br />
<a href="http://saturday.com/">kate spade saturday</a><br />
<br />
i don't have much more information on it than that, but rest assured that i have signed up for the email updates so i'll share that news with you when i get it.<br />
<br />
i'm going to be honest with you all though, i have not been super impressed with the spring trends i have seen so far. i'm not digging chunky heels or the peasant look...or the super metallic look. i'm still stoked on neons and i'm definitely excited about the influx of lace.<br />
<br />
what about neon lace? i've always loved neon lace for lingerie (overshare?) but haven't really thought about it for clothes. i've been seeing it here and there...it's definitely something i'd try:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Image 1 of ASOS Neon Lace Midi Skirt" src="http://images.asos-media.com/inv/media/2/0/4/2/1622402/pink/image1xl.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">asos.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
one of my other favorite spring classics is a good floral, or a variation on a floral, like this dress:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Printmaking an Impression Dress" src="http://productshots2.modcloth.com/productshots/0123/9670/e1a9bc8453756574c628e8f9e14b186d.jpg?1357249866" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">modcloth.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div>
the 6-year-old-girl in me is obsessed with this dress:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Belle of the Ball Gown" src="http://productshots1.modcloth.com/productshots/0123/5018/887a0af9057682734532253e3ff43cf9.jpg?1355844364" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">modcloth.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
seriously? it's like the princess dress i used to put on my barbie dolls. amazing.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
alright i feel like this post isn't very cohesive. i just really wanted to share my excitement over kate spade saturday and then felt like i had to add other things to make it a real post.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
in my opinion, one pieces are far more flattering too, in addition to being more comfortable. and cliff jumping in a one-piece > cliff jumping in a bikini. here are some of my favorite one-piece suits out there:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://demandware.edgesuite.net/sits_pod18/dw/image/v2/AAEU_PRD/on/demandware.static/Sites-Volcom-Site/Sites-volcom-catalog/default/v1359390095945/images/productimages/O3011310_BLK_F.JPG?sw=1200&sh=1200" height="320" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="320" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">volcom.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
i can't help it, i love this suit from volcom. they had a similar one out last year but i almost like the eccentric pattern of this one better. it's just weird enough to be cool.<br />
<div>
<br />
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://www3.assets-gap.com/webcontent/0005/795/024/cn5795024.jpg" height="320" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="240" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">oldnavy.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
this suit is so pin-up chic! i don't know if the hip covering would be flattering on everyone, but it could be worth a try.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Profile by Gottex 'Tutti Frutti' Skirted One Piece Swim Dress" src="http://g-lvl3.nordstromimage.com/imagegallery/store/product/Gigantic/13/_7065793.jpg" height="320" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="208" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">nordstrom.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
i'm not sure quite how i feel about "swim dresses" but i kind of like this one...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Robin Piccone 'Penelope' Crochet Overlay One Piece Swimsuit" src="http://g-lvl3.nordstromimage.com/imagegallery/store/product/Gigantic/19/_7173359.jpg" height="320" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="208" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">nordstrom.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
if i had a ton of money, i would get this suit. in the meanwhile, i'd love to see some knockoffs. the crochet is so demure!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
that's a little sampling - modcloth and target both have solid collections of pretty suits. i know it won't be swim suit weather for awhile, but i can't help planning ahead...</div>
<div>

<br />
lily pulitzer has made a set of makeup bags that come free with a purchase from estee lauder. some stores have a lower minimum purchase requirement than others (usually around $35-$45), so some scouting is necessary for the best deal:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://cdn.44fashionstreet.com/website/v2/uploads/articles/Estee-Lauder--Lilly-Pulitzer-Collaborate-On-Makeup-Bags-1.jpg" height="215" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">image from 44fashionstreet.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
this morning i woke up to this stunning partnership between prabal gurung and target. seriously, i'm going to have to make a budget and pick and choose what i want because everything is stunning. this nepali-american designer is a favorite of the first lady, and hey. if it's good enough for michelle, it's good enough for me. here are some of my favorite pieces:<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
seriously? i could go on and on. but if you want to see more, go <a href="http://www.elle.com/fashion/spotlight/prabal-gurung-for-target-collection-full-look-book#slide-1">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
what collaborations would you like to see?? kate spade x j.crew!? (in my dreams). h&m x comme les garcons?? like kevin garnett, anything is possible!</div>

<br />
first up: nautical neon.<br />
neon was big last year, as we all know. to ease the transition into this bright color palette, lots of places took the neutral+neon approach. a lot of neutral, splash of neon. this year, i predict that the nautical look and the neon look will collide - and it will be wonderful! i'm thinking it'll be kind of like this:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://www1.assets-gap.com/webcontent/0005/775/711/cn5775711.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
this gap shirt combines the dark-blue nautical stripe look with neon green embellishments. i'm excited for this prediction to come true.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
second: workout clothes</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
the i'm-going-to-the-gym-later look has been in for awhile, but it seems like workout clothes are getting cuter and more multi-functional. lululemon stuff is gorgeous, but completely out of my price range:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Groove Pant*Slim*R" src="http://images.lululemon.com/is/image/lululemon/LW5952R_9645_1?$pdp_main$" height="320" width="257" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
on the other end of the spectrum, forever 21 recently came out with an activewear line that has a lot of very cute things, like this neon colorblock pullover. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://www.forever21.com/images/model_front/31556887-02.jpg" height="320" width="262" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
third, i predict baubles will come back with a vengeance. like workout clothes, you can find them at a variety of price points. jcrew has lots of pretty bubbly necklaces:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Bubble necklace" src="http://s7.jcrew.com/is/image/jcrew/92687_BL7111?$pdp_fs418$" height="320" width="320" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
until that comes on sale, though, i'll be getting my bauble fix at charming charlie. unfortunately, i can't show you any of those right now because their site is getting an overhaul, but i know you trust me.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
in the coming days, i hope to post more entries on nail art, visualizing your resolution, and some of my favorite trends in design and decorating NOT of the clothing/jewelry variety. stay tuned!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

BUT the other day i went strolling in for one thing and took the long road, looking at all the wonderful things i would be happy to have for christmas.<br />
<br />

this year for christmas i decided to make my life a whole lot harder and make my own christmas cards. i this spirit, i tried paper quilling. basically, paper quilling is an form that involves curling up strips of paper and molding them into shapes. and then using those shapes to make other shapes. each card took a really long time, and i got a lot of glue on my hands, but i'm really happy with the results. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
so basically you cut paper into these little strips. it's really important that the paper is colored on both sides:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqGkQmgFEj__is_I1xWWdJrlTo7an65ACyB_BpxttNnJVu9R6DuEN49Nio_spAeTywYbHG-mNCWIN5oKsbtsGfZQXYOZTKjy3SGUUusgS2xIiMrOEHosLGBC5RsTigTKVsjHgzQ9oDjao/s1600/2012-12-09+03.22.17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqGkQmgFEj__is_I1xWWdJrlTo7an65ACyB_BpxttNnJVu9R6DuEN49Nio_spAeTywYbHG-mNCWIN5oKsbtsGfZQXYOZTKjy3SGUUusgS2xIiMrOEHosLGBC5RsTigTKVsjHgzQ9oDjao/s320/2012-12-09+03.22.17.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
then you roll them up into tight coils. i used my fingers sometimes and sometimes i used a toothpick, at least to start the coil. then, i let the coil go a little bit til it unravels to the size i want. then i glue the end of the paper down. to make a tear drop, pinch the end. to make an oval, pinch both ends. other than that, i just made it up as i went. here are the final products!</div>

<br />
first off, these little pill/trinket boxes from urban outfitters are divine. it's no secret that i love macarons, so it shouldn't be a surprise that i love these. the colors, the style, the gold embellishments - so cute and parisian!<br />

i was trolling fab.com the other day looking for christmas presents when i stumbled upon these beauties from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/RetroLovePhotography?ref=top_trail">Retro Love</a>. something about these simple photographs is stunning to me - maybe it's the pale but bright colors, maybe it's the text-image juxtaposition, maybe it's because i just plain like this style. a lot of these photos also come in iphone cases, so when i get my iphone, i will for sure be purchasing a case from this lady...<br />

although i love my dependable and chic hunters, sometimes i want something a little flashier to put a spring in my step on a rainy day. i've gotten tons of compliments walking down the streets in portland wearing these wellies from sakroots. they're gorgeous AND i got them at costco!</div>

so i'm trying really hard not to become a crazy cat lady, but i'll tell you - cats are not making this easy. don't get me wrong, i love all animals, but cats are just SO CUTE. today, my friend matt had to force me to change the background of my phone away from a picture of a cat that's not even mine. but backing away from a life of feline-ridden spinsterhood is a gradual process, so give me some allowances along the way - like this little ring from <span id="goog_186223028"></span>madewell<span id="goog_186223029"></span>.</div>

and there you have it! things that make me happy when the sky is crying. what about you? what brightens your rainy day?<br />

<br />
with halloween soundly (and sadly) behind us, it's now time to focus on the fact that love actually season is just a moment away. i'll probably be doing a lot of entries centered on gift ideas (particularly useful if you're buying a gift for me) because gift giving is both an art and a challenge. i don't want to pull you away from looking at instagrammed pictures of peoples' ballots for too long, though, so here are some of my favorite things right now:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Auriga Bracelet" src="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0175/6904/products/IMG_2792_grande.jpg?228" height="320" width="320" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
first off, i have to draw attention to the beautiful jewelry of <a href="http://www.abacusrow.com/">abacus row</a>. each piece is hand-made by my dear friend, christine. her designs are simple, elegant, and eye-catching. this blue bracelet is one of my favorites.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://www.glamour.com/fashion/blogs/slaves-to-fashion/2012/11/05/1105-keds-kate-spade-fa.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">glamour.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
second, kate spade has partnered with keds to release a new line of completely amazing (and comfortable) canvas flats. these won't be coming out in time for christmas (they're due out in february), but i'm obsessed already.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://cache0.bigcartel.com/product_images/75824136/beermo-6pack-mix_800x800.jpg" height="320" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="320" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">beardowear.ca</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
speaking of obsessed, i must have these. i'm usually pretty impartial to moustache-themed things, but this is genius and i love it.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Wearable Planter Pin" src="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0150/2006/products/lapel-aqua-2_1024x1024.jpg?0" height="212" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="320" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">wearableplanter.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
and last but not least, i am highly intrigued by this new wearable greenery trend. i like the idea of a lapel pin better than a necklace or earrings, which i feel like would swing around too much. but how great is this? it's a little tiny planter. my only question - hypothetically speaking, say i have the opposite of a green thumb and can pretty much kill plants just by looking at them wrong. how quickly will my lapel plants die? because while wearing live plants is adorable, wearing dead plants is weird and creepy.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
okay - i am going back to ignoring facebook and trying to do actual work and not think about the election. bisoux!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
one of my best purchases lately has to be this <a href="http://www.hm.com/us/product/01003?article=01003-F#article=01003-D">h&m</a> blazer in navy blue. long, boyish-but-feminine, and in an versatile neutral.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5xfqv89Ou71-qxD_Z0KzVu8cNnIfU4vL43evjk8XH1sehHzncLJCaRnPvUBdqvWZKc4INieJ9TA8wxCmLrH9v5nHi9SZ_4k771OXjWf4rrTmGzTIiZsdArcsuir0vujwK5n3HPsFCODM/s1600/hmprod.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5xfqv89Ou71-qxD_Z0KzVu8cNnIfU4vL43evjk8XH1sehHzncLJCaRnPvUBdqvWZKc4INieJ9TA8wxCmLrH9v5nHi9SZ_4k771OXjWf4rrTmGzTIiZsdArcsuir0vujwK5n3HPsFCODM/s320/hmprod.jpg" height="320" width="273" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
i'm excited to pair it with some of my flashier accessories. summer may be over, but you'll have to pry the neon from my cold, dead hands.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmgtTV5bR7XBfP4vos2T9NhzfD0Gjv6IeveEgO89_qsvnrR0Lru6pzsBU6j9tedKet_POxV68Us-hr6w4PA85xNPAzwpCuZKG9Mc2vQEAJuwefzy9ZbYggGe0u1KCLlMdWiPh4GNmOFWA/s1600/img-thing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmgtTV5bR7XBfP4vos2T9NhzfD0Gjv6IeveEgO89_qsvnrR0Lru6pzsBU6j9tedKet_POxV68Us-hr6w4PA85xNPAzwpCuZKG9Mc2vQEAJuwefzy9ZbYggGe0u1KCLlMdWiPh4GNmOFWA/s1600/img-thing.jpg" /></a></div>
navy also pairs really well with coral and rose gold, two of my favorite summer-fall transition colors.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
i am also really into this flowing, over-sized blouse trend. i paired this shirt (or a shirt like it that was cheaper and from nordstrom rack) with a pair of black flat-front shorts yesterday and accessorized with a bold gold necklace:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQPbQQ6Z4eT1uakn9z8GgjJCO2vrtYj8YGyRkZ5wTxnecXCJWyzT5xuFxG6OAWDpItwXaqGZTxUQ2uuFMhFR5FsPEiqojabRmeQ9f25au-zZQQbh5NU2Oe7bVq14ZBk6Bm0gCgPA7WH6E/s1600/blue+shirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQPbQQ6Z4eT1uakn9z8GgjJCO2vrtYj8YGyRkZ5wTxnecXCJWyzT5xuFxG6OAWDpItwXaqGZTxUQ2uuFMhFR5FsPEiqojabRmeQ9f25au-zZQQbh5NU2Oe7bVq14ZBk6Bm0gCgPA7WH6E/s320/blue+shirt.jpg" height="320" width="208" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">nordstrom.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
as for bottoms...i can't yet give up my neon matchstick ankle jeans, or my patterned shorts, or my skirts, or my white capris (yes, i'm still wearing white - didn't you hear? people finally don't care about when you wear white clothes). new distressed jeans, though, may ease the separation anxiety...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
lastly, i'm a little in love with this new fragrance from marc jacobs. like everything else here, it's a little bit summer and a little bit fall - the perfect balance between floral, feminine, and classic. plus, it's packaging is inspired by an insect! i can't splurge for the whole bottle right now (slash until i have a real job) so i've been content with the samples the ladies at nordstrom give me.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">refinery29.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
so in conclusion, so long sweet summer. thanks for the beach trips, the summer camps, the hiking, the cliff-jumping, the barbeques, the opportunity to drive around with the windows down blasting <i>call me maybe</i> (or when that got old, <i>we are never ever getting back together</i>). i will welcome you again with open arms in nine months.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
welcome to the world, autumn. you've got a lot to live up to!<br />
<br />
